Many local businesses generously donated an incredible array of gifts that included health and well-being, entertainment and restaurant vouchers, and food and wine, as well as ‘experiences’ which were raffled and auctioned to a very generous audience! The amount raised exceeded expectations.

The charity was set up only 12 months ago by Southport resident Lindsay Church, who previously worked with various charities helping to rehome dogs. Now, together with co-founder Lizzie Fitzgerald of Penny’s Ark and a board of trustees and volunteers, they work with a shelter in Romania where dogs are rescued and looked after before being rehomed in a cohesive and responsible way – firstly by fostering here in the UK where possible, then matching the dogs to owners who can give them a wonderful new life. The charity also tries to help with rehoming dogs from other countries as well as the UK.

Lindsey Church said: “I would like to thank everyone who was involved in making this event such a great success - our sponsor, and our guest speakers for stepping in at short notice, Coast, and all the businesses that donated such amazing gifts, plus our supporters and of course, to everyone that attended the event. We couldn’t have done it without their support and generosity.

“The money raised will make a real difference and allow us to help more dogs in distress, not only saving them but changing their lives. For anyone who would like to find out more about what we do (we are always looking for volunteers) and for a full list of all the businesses that so kindly donated gifts please take a look on our website Penny's Ark (pennysark.com) and on Facebook.”
